Debate: What does Evolution attempt to explain?

Having read some of the discussions on Conservapedia, I've found that there appears to be a difference in opinion not only on whether Evolution has merits, but over what Evolution tries to explain. To begin with, a clarification of three terms is beneficial; 'evolution' - the word evolution has a non-scientific, non-Darwinian meaning. To evolve is to change, i.e. children 'evolve' into adults. A small business may expand and its business structure will 'evolve' to one better suited for a larger business. Second; 'Darwinian Evolution' - the theory of evolution put forward by Charles Darwin, without expansion of those who have followed. Lastly; 'Evolution' (with a capital E) - The current theory of Evolution, with expansions made by the scientific community over the last 150 years or so. If possible, sources to back up opinions would be preferred. - JamesCA 01:59, 29 November 2011 (EST)
