Dmitri Medvedev (born Leningrad, 14 September 1965) is the President of Russia; he succeeded Vladimir Putin in this office on 7 May 2008.
Widely seen as a puppet (more politely, a protege) of Putin, Medvedev had been appointed a Deputy prime Minister by Putin in 2005, and was endorsed by Putin for the presidency.
