The Ford Thunderbird is was a personal luxury car made by Ford. It invented the genre of personal luxury car when it was released in 1955, forever altering the automotive landscape and winning countless "Car of the Year" awards. Over the course of its production, the Thunderbird underwent several stylistic changes, changing from a drop top to a coupe and back again. It was almost always available with a V8. The Thunderbird was discontinued in 1997, but was revived with a distinct "retro" look in 2002 before production was ceased in 2005.
