Hellenistic means anything relating to Greek history, culture, and art after the life of Alexander the Great. Hellenization was the process of adopting a Hellenistic view and was almost a worship of Greek culture and Greek ways. Ancient Palestine had a great deal of difficulty in keeping Jewish culture separate from the influences of Hellenization and the clash of cultures among the Jewish people sometimes manifested itself in violent ways.
