Jacksonville is the most populous city in the state of Florida and the thirteenth most populous city in the United States. It is the county seat of Duval County. Jacksonville is also the largest city by area in the state of Florida, having (substantially) merged with Duval County in 1968 (there are three small communities which did not merge with the county and maintain some independence, but for the most part Jacksonville and Duval County have consolidated operations).
