'''Jose Luis Cuevas''' (b. 1934) is a Mexican [[painter]] and [[sculptor]]. Cuevas was a member of the Generación de la Ruptura (Breakaway Generation), a movement that criticized the Mexican [[muralism]]. He has won multiple awards like the Mexican 1981 National Prize of Culture and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from France in 1991. In 1992, Cuevas created the José Luis Cuevas Museum with more than 1800 pieces by various artists, mostly from Latin America, donated by the artist. The Statue "La Giganta" ("The Giantess") by Cuevas, is fixed in the central courtyard of this museum.
Cuevas in considered mostly an excellent draftsman. In many of Cuevas' drawings, the figures are transformed into animals.
