Kermit Gosnell, MD was a murderous abortion practitioner in Philadelphia, PA, who went for years without ever being investigated by the State. Ultimately one courageous prosecutor in Philadelphia finally charged him with multiple gruesome crimes.
On April 29, 2013 he went on trial for murder in the first degree, charged in the deaths of several babies that were born alive, but whom he made sure would die anyway. Gosnell achieved this by a method he called snipping, where he severed newborns spine's with scissors.
His clinic was also notably for shockingly substandard health circumstances. One fifteen-year-old girl was made an anesthesiologist after reading a textbook for twenty minutes. Gosnell himself was not a licensed OB/GYN. In addition to his abortion practice, his clinic, Women's Medical Society, operated a "pill mill", selling OxyContin.
His trial initially received very little coverage by the liberal media, with primary reporting coming from only one reporter (Joe Slobodzian) of The Philadelphia Inquirer. After an outcry at the underreporting bias, NPR,[1] the Chicago Tribune,[2] the New York Times,[3] Al-Jazeera [4] the Atlantic Monthly,[5] and the Huffington Post,[6] began to cover it.
The issues raised at trial, and lack of response to them from some quarters, raise serious questions as to the motives of abortion advocates in America today. Many in the media were critical of the lack of media coverage, including Bill O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly, and perhaps most prominently Democratic Party analyst Kirsten Powers. The bill filibustered by Wendy Davis was conceived in part as a response to the Gosnell incident.
Gosnell was convicted on multiple charges of murder, and sentenced to prison for his actions while running the clinic.
