The Latin War fought from 340 to 338 B.C. was an uprising the Roman Republic's Latin allies and colonies and was joined by the Campanians, who had just been Rome's ally in the First Samnite War. The war featured the battles of Vesuvius and Trifanum. In the end the revolt was put down and the Romans responded with a mixture of firmness and leniency which thereafter assured the steadfast loyalty of the Latins as Rome continued to expand.
