Liberation theology

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Jpatt (Talk | contribs) at 02:50, September 18, 2008. It may differ significantly from current revision.

Liberation theology arose from the 1960s onwards in Latin America as a vehicle for fellow traveller priests with leftist political views to attack conservative governments friendly to the United States. While ostensibly based on Scripture, the ideology tended to be extremely left-leaning and influenced by Marxist materialism and was thus not viewed favorably by the Vatican.
