Manda

Manda is a Japanese giant monster, or daikaiju, created and owned by the Japanese company Toho.

Manda is a giant Asian Dragon, and is either a dark gold or gray color. It is the god/defender of the ancient civilization of Mu, and appears in three films: Atragon, Destroy All Monsters, and Godzilla: Final Wars.

Plot Overview

In these films, Manda's history began when the Mu Empire declared war on the world, attacking several American and Japanese submarines. Japan, meanwhile, released a new weapon, the super tri-phibian vessel Atragon. Atragon, originally built to combat America during WWII, proved more than a match for the Mu ships, and invaded the under-water kingdom. In a last ditch effort, the Mu released Manda to attack Atragon. Manda had experience attacking submarines, but Atragon electrified her hull, forcing Manda to release the ship. Atragon then froze Manda with her secret weapon, the Absolute Zero Cannon. Atragon returned to Japan, while Manda, forgotten, sank to the bottom of the ocean. But Manda was not dead. When the UN established Monster Island in the 60's, Manda was among the island's inmates, beside Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan. In 1999, when the Killaks took over the island, Manda was released on London as part of the alien's plan to create panic, then was the third monster to appear in Tokyo, behind Rodan and Godzilla. After the monsters were rested from Killak control, Manda was among the monsters who attacked the Killak HQ. When King Ghidorah appeared, Manda did not help its allies by combating the space demon. While this is often seen as cowardice, Manda probably did not want to fight a monster who could breathe lighting, which was fatal to the monster. After the Killak defeat, Manda was among the monsters who returned to Monster Island, and is seen there at the end of Destroy All Monsters,as well as Godzilla's Revenge and Terror of Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla: Final Wars

In the new time line created for Godzilla:Final Wars, Manda and Godzilla are among the few monsters not killed by the Earth Defense Forces. After an attack by the monster on Normandy, the EDF sent Gotnego, an updated version of Atragon, to destroy Manda. The two fight under water, and Gotengo uses missiles to open a volcanic vent, causing the ships hull to heat up and force Manda to release the Gotengo. Manda tries to make another run on Gotengo, but the ship uses the absolute zero cannon to freeze the creature, allowing Gotengo to use her drill to destroy Manda once and for all. It has been speculated that Manda was under the control of the Xillians, like every monster besides Godzilla and Mothra. This is probably not true, as all of the other monsters attacked at the same time, and Manda is not mentioned as having any M base in its blood, while Ebirah, Gigan, and Anguirus, as well as all the other monsters did, and M base was essential to the monster's being controlled by the Xillians.
