Medals of Honor from each branch of the United States Military

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration given in the United States. Only 3,445 people have earned the Medal of Honor in the history of the United States, though nineteen have earned the honor twice.[1] The first Medal of Honor was awarded in 1863 during the Civil War,[2] and the most recent posthumously awarded to Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy of the United States Navy in 2005, during Operation Enduring Freedom.[3]
