'''Michael Shumway "Mike" Lee''' (born June 4, 1971) is mostly a constitutional [[conservative]], a constitutional lawyer, a [[paleolibertarian]], and is the senior Republican United States Senator from [[Utah]], having won the 2010 election, having been backed by the [[Tea Party Movement]] and the [[Senate Conservatives Fund]]. He scored a primary victory against incumbent Republican [[Bob Bennett]]. He promised to reduce the cost, size and scope of the federal government. His father was an Assistant U.S. Attorney General under President Ford and U.S. Attorney General under [[Ronald Reagan]]. Lee's legal career includes a one-year clerkship with Justice [[Samuel Alito]] at the U.S. Supreme Court. He and his wife Sharon have three children and live in Alpine, Utah.
Once a frontrunner to be nominated by a Republican president to the [[U.S. Supreme Court]], Senator Lee hurt his chances by speaking out against candidate [[Donald Trump]] in October 2016. Trump then won the presidential election to the surprise of Utah [[Republican]]sinsiders, and passed over Mike Lee three times in filling vacancies.
