Mt. Rainier is an active volcano located in Washington state approximately 50 miles southwest of Seattle. Mt. Rainier is a prominent feature of the Seattle skyline, and locals refer to it as "The Mountain". With an elevation of 14,410 feet at the peak, Mt. Rainier is the tallest mountain in the Cascade range, and is topped by twenty-six glaciers. The mountain poses hazard to those living in the nearby river valleys due its history of both eruptive and non-eruptive lahars (mudflows) [1]
