Nagano city is the capital of Nagano Prefecture, host of the 1998 Olympic Winter Games and the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games. It is situated on the main island of Honshu, Japan, in the Region of Chūbu.

Nagano City has an estimated population of 380,000. It is famous for the Buddhist temple (Zenkō-ji), a 7th century building.

Nagano Prefecture is the treasure house of nature, history and culture. Situated in the center of Japan, it is home to the Northern, Central and Southern Alps, and so is often referred to as the "Roof of Japan." [1]
