Nitroglycerin

Nitroglycerin is an oily, colourless liquid which is highly explosive and may be detonated by a mere jolt or the application of friction. It is manufactured it by mixing glycerol with nitric and sulphuric acids under carefully controlled conditions.

It also has remarkable medical properties and is used to treat heart disease.
