North Vietnam was the Communist part of divided Vietnam, before and during the Vietnam War. It conquered South Vietnam in 1975, after the U.S. withdrawal in 1973.

Hanoi authorized the creation of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF). The NLF emphasized patriotism, honesty and good government.
