Omar al-Bashir is the current President of Sudan. He is criticized by various governments and by organizations such as Amnesty International, for not acting on various crises, most notably the Darfur conflict, in which Arab Muslim militias known collectively as the Janjaweed have massacred, raped, and displaced 2.5 million non-Arab Muslims.

On June 14th, 2008, the International Criminal Court's top prosecutor charged Al-Bashir with masterminding a campaign of genocide, and asked the court for an arrest warrant for the leader.
