'''The Phantom of the Opera''' is a 1909 novel by French writer Gaston Leroux. It is the story of a tragic love triangle between a young singer, her childhood friend and a mysterious and disfigured stranger who haunts the opera house in which the story is set. It is probably best known for [[Andrew Lloyd Webber]]'s 1986 musical adapation, which has become the longest running musical in history. There have also been numerous film and television versions.
