In Greek myth, Pylades]] was the faithful friend of Orestes who helped him avenge the murder of his father, Agamemnon by his mother and her lover. He was the son of King Strophius and Anaxibia, Agamemnon's sister, to whom the young Orestes had been exiled during the time leading up to the regicide. He offered to sacrifice himself in place of Orestes in the land of the Tauri, and in so doing, has become the classical epitome of the constant friend. The two have also been depicted as lovers. He married Orestes' sister, Electra.
