Saigon is the former name of the largest city in southern Vietnam [1] In 1975 Saigon was renamed, and is now known as Ho Chi Minh City. [2] Saigon is located near the South China Sea, and was the capitol of South Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. [3]

Vietnam is a country in Southeast Asia, bordered by China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, and the Pacific Ocean to the east and south. [4]

The name Saigon has its root in a Khmer word "Prei Kor" meaning "Kapok Tree Forest". [5]
