Talk:Gene

Return to "Gene" page.

Evolution is not the changing of genes. Evolution is the adaptation of a population to better fit its environment. --ColinR 23:55, 11 March 2007 (EDT)

I agree, also evolution does not say the mutation is harmful, it has no stance on mutation other than it needs to happen for evolution to happen.--TimS 17:24, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

Proposed organization

Divide this article into:

  • What is a gene? How does it work? What does it do? Is it part of a chromosome, or is it the other way around? What do genes have to do with DNA? With cell division?
  • A section (or separate article) on Mutation. What mutations have been observed in the wild? Or created by human "designers" (experimenters) in the lab?
  • History of genetics: Did Mendel do anything interesting? How is genetics related to animal breeding? Does it have any relation to making new varieties of foodstuffs like grains, fruits, vegetables? Or making new kinds of pretty flowers?

Please don't waste time on pro-evolution stuff, until you have provided our readers with basic, rock-solid, unambiguous and clear information on the elementary concepts of Biology. --Ed Poor 07:45, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
