Whilst i don't personally believe in ghosts, the statement that ghosts 'don't of course exist' could be seen as debatable. What about the Holy Ghost, for example? The point that belief in ghosts is merely a belief, not a fact, is clearly made at the beginning of this article, so the final statement is perhaps un-necessary, and quite contradictory with the rest of the article?--Eyupdutch 08:34, 19 June 2007 (EDT)

Without really addressing your question, the Holy Ghost doesn't count here. It's really a different meaning of the word. The Holy Ghost is certainly not the "ghost" of Jesus Christ, for example.
One could certainly believe in the Holy Ghost without believing that when ordinary people die, they leave visible ghosts behind.
I agree that the article has a number of problems. Dpbsmith 09:42, 19 June 2007 (EDT)

It was wrong for the article to say a ghost is "believed" to be a spirit that haunts people. That's like saying orange is "believed" to be the colour that results when red and yellow pigments are mixed. A ghost is a spirit - that's it's definition. Its ontological status is a separate issue.
