How can the Statue not have anything to do with immigration with statement like that? Adg2011 21:09, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

I agree - it's specifically facing OUT, and was placed in the harbor that was the primary point of entry for immigrants of the time. It is explicitly a statement about immigration, and the fact that immigrants come to the U.S. seeking liberty. I propose deleting that sentence entirely; what's out of context is comparing something from a prior era to the country's current serious illegal immigration problems. Cut from article:

  • This poem is often selectively quoted out of context by those seeking to justify more immigration into the United States, when in fact the Statue of Liberty has nothing to do with immigration.

Who says it's an out of context quote? And what do they mean by that? Let's be clear. --Ed Poor Talk 11:50, 29 April 2008 (EDT)

Immigration policy

Clearly the US is a nation of immigrants. Our immigration policy may be inspired by the welcoming attitude shown in the statue's inscription.

Perhaps we need a debate on Conservapedia:What should America's immigration policy be? --Ed Poor Talk 11:56, 29 April 2008 (EDT)
