How can the Statue not have anything to do with immigration with statement like that? Adg2011 21:09, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

I agree - it's specifically facing OUT, and was placed in the harbor that was the primary point of entry for immigrants of the time. It is explicitly a statement about immigration, and the fact that immigrants come to the U.S. seeking liberty. I propose deleting that sentence entirely; what's out of context is comparing something from a prior era to the country's current serious illegal immigration problems. Immigration policy

Clearly the US is a nation of immigrants. Our immigration policy may be inspired by the welcoming attitude shown in the statue's inscription.
