Texas Independence Day is on March 2, 1836, when Texans adopted the Texas Declaration of Independence and founded the Republic of Texas.
The University of Texas honors this in Austin by shining burnt, entirely orange lights from its famous Tower.[1]
“For the proudest of Texans, it’s the most important day of the year,” observes the University's historian Jim Nicar. “It’s a holiday that no other state can claim.”[1]
