The '''thirteen colonies''' were the original colonies of the [[United States]]. They were: Massachusetts<ref> It absorbed the Plymouth Colony</ref>, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
