USS Pueblo

The USS Pueblo (AGER-2, originally AKL-44), is a commissioned ship of the United States Navy. On January 23, 1968, while off Wonsan, North Korea, the USS Pueblo was attacked by the North Korean naval and air forces and seized.[1][2] Eighty two surviving crew members were captured and held prisoner for 11 months, one crew member was killed in the assault. Under inhumane conditions, after eleven months of captivity, Pueblo's crew was repatriated on December 23, 1968. The ship was retained by North Korea,[3] despite it still being the property of the U.S. Navy.
The North Koreans contended that the ship had violated their territorial waters, a claim denied by the United States.[4]
