Viktor Yanukovych is the president of Ukraine since 2010. He is a former communist and leader of his pro-russian "Party of Regions".

Yanukovych as politican

In 2004 Yanukovych was a canditate of the parliamentary elections. He won against Viktor Yushchenko. So it came to protest and the Supreme Court of the Ukraine cancelled the result. In a second round of the elections Viktor Yushchenko won. In the elections 2010 Yanukovych was the winner. Since his tenure many oppositional activists were arrested. Include Yulia Tymoshenko, the Minister chairwoman under the government of Yushenko.
