Wicca is a religion that has many different sects and groups like many other religions. Many wiccans believe in a god and a godess, with many different deities being manifest of the god and the goddess. They use nature and pray and worship the lord and the lady. Many wiccans also practice magick, though one does not have to to be called wiccan. The use of magick is important in healing, and other such spells. Wiccans have been persecuted for a number of years, especially by christians who burnt them at the stake and drowned them as they were fearful of the 'witches' who apparantly wanted to hurt them. Wicca is a time old traditional religion that is earth based, peaceful and tolerant.

Contrary to a popular belief, Wicca is not an "old" religion, having been started, at the earliest, in the mid-1950's.  There is no truth to the claim that "wiccans" were burnt at the stake by Christians, seeing as Wicca did not exist when the practice of burning suspected witches was still continuing.  Moreover, these "witches" usually were simply people who spoke out against or disagreed with someone particularly malicious, who would accuse them of witchcraft. While there are many old religions that influence Wicca, none of them are alike enough to Wicca to be called its parent.

Wicca technically appears under the blanket term of paganism, and the two are often (incorrectly) used in place of one another.
