World Heritage Sites are designated by UNESCO to identify, protect and preserve areas of cultural and natural heritage of "outstanding value to humanity"[1]. There are currently 851 sites around the world designated as World Heritage Sites (660 cultural, 166 natural and 25 mixed); a list can be found here[2].
