2. During the religious wars in England, there was a large exodus from England and people traveled to the New World or America. At that time, when a person left home to travel across the world to another place, that person would have to be pretty adventurous to do so. England lost most of its adventurous and creative people which likely slowed down its growth with inventions and knowledge. Now as the New World became known as the United States, this new land had a large group of adventurous people that would be the foundation for this nation. All men created equal and each man could make his fortune based on ability, not birthright.

3. The French Revolution was good in some ways but deadly in others. One of the positive reasons is the start of a democratic government for France. One of the negative reasons is that right after the start of the new government, a dictator rose to power similar to a monarchy. The class mentality bound the French still.

4. The revolution in Haiti was fought between the slaves and the French. Its leader was an African priest, Toussaint L’Overture who was later tricked and was put in a French prison till his death. A general under L’Overture, named Dessalines later fought on after the African priest’s capture and helped to declare Haiti’s independence on Jan. 1, 1804.

5. I think the world took so long to revolt against its monarch oppressors due to the class system which told people that you could not be better than what class you were born into. The belief existed that the monarchs were placed on the thrones by divine right. The notion that all people are created equal would have been considered blasphemous until two events occurred. The first was the Reformation which explained that we are not saved by works but God’s mercy. The second event was the invention of the Guttenberg press, when common people were be able to read the God’s Word in their native tongue. Prior to this, common people relied on their priests to interpret the Word of God. Unfortunately, this created a religious political structure with no checks and balances, that could serve its own interest instead of the people that it was responsible for.
