Homosexual activists and abortion
Homosexual activists and abortion refers to the strategic relationships and like-minded political agendas of LGBT and pro-abortion activists. They push two major platforms, same-sex marriage and abortion, through a common theme of 'rights'. These leftwing organizations have the full support of the Democratic party. Even though LGBT hasn't a need to stand for abortion since same-sex couples cannot copulate, abortion supporters do work together since they perceive Catholics and Republicans as the enemy of both their agendas. Matt Foreman, exuctive director of the National Gay & Lesbian Taskforce says, "Reproductive freedom and gay rights are inextricably intertwined," in addition, "Do we support a woman’s right to choose? Damn right. Always have. Always will. No apologies. No regrets." The LGBT community fears abortion laws because they negatively "threaten to take away our fundamental equality," and anti-abortion ballot measures would harm their ally.
One LGBT activist organization bucks the common trend of combining resources of abortion rights and homosexual rights. PLAGAL (The Pro-Life Alliance of Gays And Lesbians) stating they know the "devastation abortion has on a woman's mental health. Women deserve to know all the information they can before they make such a life altering decision." Also, the have written letters to other LGBT groups opposing the March for Choice protest, organized by Planned Parenthood, NARAL and NOW saying "Let us remind them that when they support abortion on demand that they are not speaking for all members of the LGBT community and that they are alienating those of us who would otherwise support them on other issues."
Robert Knight, a director of the Culture & Family Institute, an affiliate of Concerned Women for America, wrote the following regarding the abortion industry and homosexual activists being political allies:
|“|| At the national level, the pro-abortion National Organization for Women supports all aspects of the homosexual agenda, including same-sex “marriage,” hate crime laws, and persecuting the Boy Scouts for barring homosexuals as scoutmasters.
Homosexual activist groups are players in liberal coalitions that work against pro-life judicial nominees, for socialized medicine, and for legislation restricting the rights of pro-life demonstrators, such as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which treats pro-life protesters as criminals.
LeadershipU reported the following regarding homosexual activists and abortion:
|“|| Gay activists' behavior at non-violent, pro-life Operation Rescue protests has been notoriously violent and even obscene. The Los Angeles Times, October 6, 1991, reported:
"Members of ACT-UP, the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, spit on, kiss and stick needles into Operation Rescue members and then shout `Welcome to the world of AIDS,' claims Bill Soucie, a Glendale abortion foe. Some ACT UP members push and shove Operation Rescue members, while others drop their trousers and moon their opponents or lift T-shirts to expose their breasts, he said...
About the nudity, ACT-UP member David Barton is quoted: "`Sure, it's militant behavior,' he said. `These people are so offensive to us, we do whatever we can to offend them.' Nudity is sometimes just a spontaneous action, said ACT UP member Judy Kristel, who exposed her breasts at a June 29 demonstration. Her action and that of three others who exposed themselves was videotaped and the tape given to El Monte police for possible prosecution."
