Operation Shield and Arrow was a military operation by the IDF in the Gaza Strip against the "Palestinian" Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist organization that began on May 9, 2023, the night of Lag Ba'Omer, and ended five days later, on May 13. In the operation, the IDF killed six senior members of the Islamic Jihad in a series of targeted counterattacks, and more than 15 other terrorists in a blanket of fire and attacked hundreds of targets, including rocket launchers, mortars, command posts, and sites for the production of weapons. The Islamic Jihad launched at Israel more than -1,400 artillery rockets and mortar bombs, but about a fifth of them failed and exploded in the Gaza Strip. The IDF carried out two successful operational interceptions using the "David Slingshot" system, and "Iron Dome" intercepted over 430 rockets with a 95% success rate.

The May 9 beginning of the operation came a week after[1] Islamic Jihad fired the opening salvo[2] with a volley of 100 rockets into Israel following the death[3] of one of its commanders as the result of a hunger strike in prison, and a month after a multifront projectile assault on Israel by PIJ and other Iranian proxies in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.[1]

The 6 PIJ commanders terrorists - eliminated

After 5 days and 1,250 rocket launches[4]: Operation 'Shield and Arrow' has ended, leaving behind six senior commanders in the Islamic Jihad eliminated, and injured ither commanders. [5] Quite a few failed launches by the Jihad killed "Palestinians,"[6] along with two dead on the Israeli side, one of them a resident of Gaza. Over 1200 launches, a sixth of which fell in the Gaza Strip, most of the crossings were intercepted. Home Front Command has gradually removing restrictions.

IDF waited 2 days to kill Islamic Jihad leader who was using human shields.[7]

An Egyptian brokered cease fire was reached. The PIJ leader, Muhammad al-Hindi (محمد الهندي), wrapped his statement of asking to stop targeted assassination of its commanders by "killing civilians."[8] After the "Palestinians" did broke the ceasefire abd launched, the IDF hit Hamas.[9]

The so called "moderate" Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah referred to the 80-yr old Israeli Jewish victim of PIJ rocket in Rehovot as so called "settler". That city was never a settlement but part of Israel since its 1948 inception.[10]

Twisted Omar Shakir while still using the HRW as propaganda tool, hailed Iranian backed Islamic Jihad leader - horrific Khader Adnan.[11]

Article in Jordanian State Daily praised Gaza terrorists.[12]

Analysis:[13]
With a fighting round lasting five days Israel delivers the worse blow on PIJ since its inception and as a result, against its patrons in Iran, as well. The ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Islamic Jihad went into effect Saturday night and if preserved, Operation Shield and Arrow could be described as one of the most successful operations of the IDF and the Shin Bet in Gaza.

Weeks later, against the backdrop of the latest round of fighting between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza, Palestinian journalist Samir Al-Barghouti, a columnist for the Qatari daily Al-Watan, called on the Palestinians of all factions to carry out terror attacks throughout Israel, from the north to the south, in order to inflict blows on the Israelis and terrify them.[14]

The Palestinian Authority bragged that its Fatah gave active support to Islamic Jihad PIJ during the Shield and arrow IDF anti-terror operation.[15]

Former UK commander rejects UN accusations leveled at Israeli army, which adheres to — and goes beyond — international laws of war in this conflict fueled by Iran; No country can sit back and watch while its enemies lash out. "A grave slur against IDF’: UN plays right into Islamic Jihad’s hands."[16]

Operation Shield and Arrow has been carried out to date with breathtaking effectiveness. The shield of Iron Dome and David’s Sling have prevented major loss of life among the civilian population, although so far one man has been tragically killed and some have been injured, despite a barrage of 547 deadly rockets fired at Israel at the time of writing [as of Friday, May 12, that number had increased to 937].

The arrows of targeting intelligence, air strikes and missile attacks have decimated the Gaza terrorist leadership and destroyed many of their weapons. No other military is capable of defending its people with the ferocity and precision the IDF has been showing.

Unfortunately, some of Israel’s arrows have also killed uninvolved civilians. The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said yesterday that the civilian deaths in Gaza are “unacceptable” and called on Israel to “abide by its obligations under international humanitarian law”….

Bigoted CAIR linked "Palestine"- propagandist: Raja Abdulrahim at NYT

Raja Abdulrahim - bigoted "journalist" at NYT
NYT's Islamic reporter, (mouthpiece for "Palestinians"[17]) purposely misreported facts:[18]
Abdulrahim’s explanation of the goal of Islamic Jihad was purposely vague. She left out the fact that it is an Islamist party that believes that the entire country—Israel and the territories—should be governed solely by Islamic law. Even more important, she wrote that it was created in the 1980s “to fight the Israeli occupation.” To most Times readers and consumers of other corporate media outlets, that sounds like the organization wants to end Israel’s “occupation” of Judea and Samaria (the “West Bank”), as well as Jerusalem. But for Palestinian Arabs, the phrase means something different. When members of PIJ, or for that matter, those affiliated with its Hamas rivals or even the so-called “moderates” of Fatah—whose leaders corruptly run the Palestinian Authority— speak of “occupation,” they are not referring to those territories that Israel gained during the 1967 Six-Day War, and which the international community and the media wrongly describe as “Palestinian” rather than disputed. As far as PIJ is concerned, every inch of Israel is “occupied.” It regards the creation of the Jewish state 75 years ago as a nakba—a “catastrophe” or “disaster”—as well as a crime that must be expunged by violent struggle.

Raja Abdulrahim, again, weeks later, demonized Israel with another skewed piece but not blaming the vicious Jihadists choosing residential areas, nor praising humamitarian Israeli effort to minimize Arab casualties.[19]

    Who Was Khader Adnan?

While Human Rights Watch’s Israel and Palestine Director Omar Shakir gushed about how Adnan “valiantly struggled” and “dies [with] his head raised high,” the reality is that Adnan had been convicted for encouraging and inciting terror attacks on innocent Israeli civilians and was likely on his way to a further conviction while awaiting trial.

In fact, video footage of Adnan speaking at a rally gives a good insight into his views. “Oh Quds Brigades, strike a blow! Oh Quds Brigades, shake the earth! Who among you is Hasan Abu Zaid [suicide bomber who killed five civilians]? Who among you is the next suicide bomber? Who among you will carry the next explosive belt? Who among you will fire the next bullets? Who among you will have his body parts blown all over?” Adnan can be seen screaming to an excited mob of Palestinians.

Israeli military forces eliminated a sixth senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist commander on Friday in air strikes on Gaza City.

Iyad al-Husseni (Abu Anas), appointed to replace the terror group’s operations commander eliminated by Israel earlier in the week, was killed along with his adviser, Muhammad Abd al-A’al and a third operative. All were hiding in an apartment in Gaza City’s Nasser neighborhood at the time of the air strike. Ten other terrorists were wounded in the attack.

Launches from the Gaza Strip. Quite a few failed - and killed Palestinians.

1,469 rockets and rockets were fired at Israel, but not all of them fell on its territory - and some also hit Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. MDA treated 77 casualties, and on the other hand, on the Gaza side, 33 were killed - including 6 senior Jihadists. What is the percentage of interceptions, how many rockets were fired after the ceasefire, how many houses were destroyed in the strip and what is the extent of the damage? All the numbers.

The third round of combat in four years against the Islamic Jihad has ended - and now the IDF is moving into the summation phase of the five days of escalation. In total, during the current operation six senior Islamic Jihad officials were eliminated, 422 targets of the organization in the Gaza Strip were attacked and the system was used for the first time "David's Slingshot" - which intercepted two of the rockets, one over Gush Dan and the other over the Jerusalem mountains.

According to a preliminary investigation by the IDF, since the beginning of the operation, 1,469 rockets and rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip, of which 1,139 crossed into Israeli territory. 291 of the launches were unsuccessful, and 39 fell into the sea. 437 of the rockets were intercepted by Iron Dome, and two as mentioned by the "Slingshot of David" system. All in all, the IDF estimates that the rate of interceptions was about 90%. As a result of these launches, two people were murdered: Inga Abramian, in her 80s, who did not have time to reach the MMD in Rehovot; And Abdullah Abu Geba, a resident of Gaza who died after a fall in an open area in Shokada.

According to MDA, until yesterday at 11:15 p.m., a total of 77 victims were treated across the country, of which 32 were physically injured and 45 of shock. In addition to the two dead, 7 people were injured by shrapnel, the page and broken glass... After the ceasefire last night at 22:00, 35 rockets were fired, 11 of which were intercepted and the rest fell in territories they opened or did not cross. Since the beginning of the operation, as mentioned, six senior members of the Islamic Jihad were killed: in the opening blow, Khalil Bahitini, the senior operational commander of the Jihad and the commander of the northern region of the Gaza Strip and the successor of Taysir Jabari, who was killed in the "Dawn" operation, were killed. Tarek Ezz a-Din, who is responsible for directing the Jihad operations in the Gaza Strip; and Jihad Ghanam, the secretary of the Jihad Military Council. The senior officials of the Islamic Jihad who were killed in Gaza Six senior jihadists were eliminated, 49 housing units in Gaza are "unfit for habitation."

Later, during the operation, Iyad al-Hassani (also known by the nickname "Abu Anas"), who was in charge of the jihad operations file and acting head of the military council, was eliminated in the hiding apartments; Ali Hassan Ghali, head of the Islamic Jihad's rocket array; and Ahmed Abu-Deka, Ghali's deputy.

In total, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, 33 people were killed in the operation... At least four of them, also according to Palestinian data, were killed as a result of failed jihad launches. 147 Palestinians were injured, 20 houses were destroyed and 940 housing units were damaged - of which 49 are now defined as "unfit for habitation". The initial estimates are that the total damage is estimated at about 5 million dollars.
  7. IDF waited 2 days to kill Islamic Jihad leader who was using human shields, INN, May 11, 2023.

IDF spokesman says military held off on striking deputy commander of Islamic Jihad rocket launching force until he wasn't with family. This afternoon, the IDF announced that it had killed Ahmed Abu-Deka, the deputy commander of the rocket launching force of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization, in an airstrike in Gaza. However, the military could have gotten Abu-Deka two days earlier, and held off on attacking due to the presence of human shields.

Maj. Gen. Eliezer Toledano, the head of the IDF's Southern Command. told reporters this afternoon (Thursday) “We started with the [senior] command in the opening strike. From there we continued for a second attack last night where we killed the head of the rocket array. And now we killed his deputy."

But only until the next round that comes our way next Thursday or not.

Against the backdrop of the latest round of fighting between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza, Palestinian journalist Samir Al-Barghouti, a columnist for the Qatari daily Al-Watan, called on the Palestinians of all factions to carry out terror attacks throughout Israel, from the north to the south, in order to inflict blows on the Israelis and terrify them. He also urged the Arab countries to open up the fronts against Israel and expel the Israeli ambassadors from their territory, lest it become too late for them to repent. "The historical and religious promise regarding Palestine will soon be realized," he stated, and therefore it is necessary to keep up the attacks on Israel.

It should be noted that Al-Barghouti often calls for armed struggle against Israel. In fact, only two months ago he published a similar article inciting to besiege, pursue and attack the Israelis in Tel Aviv and in every part of Palestine, from the river to the sea.

  19. How the @NYTimes slanders Israel while adhering to narrow journalistic standards, EoZ, May 31, 2023.
...the bias and innuendo is stark to the point of slander.

The suffering Palestinian families are given paragraph after paragraph of detailed sympathy, while the victims in Israel are nameless statistics.

The article includes ten photographs of damage in Gaza and grieving victims. When was the last time you saw any newspaper article show ten photographs? Those photos give the impression of widespread damage in Gaza, when in fact the amount of damage was very limited - and far, far less than other wars.

It says that there were 9-12 civilians killed - but doesn't mention that they were killed in the course of targeting and killing over 20 terrorists. This makes the ratio of innocent victims killed one of the lowest in the history of airstrikes.

The article pretends to be even-handed by quoting Israeli responses - usually adding a "but" to dismiss what they say.

Abdulrahim generously uses quotes from families of victims that contain bald-faced lies - but the New York Times is not obligated to factcheck a quote or an opinion. For example:

“What kind of precision is this when you kill civilians?” said Asmahan Adas, referring to a strike on the home of her next-door neighbor, Khalil al-Bahtini, another Islamic Jihad commander, that also killed her two teenage daughters. “When Israel wants to kill someone, they can find many different ways to kill, but they want others to die along with their target.”

Or the subhead: "Palestinians in Gaza say that Israel’s strikes against Islamic Jihad amount to a collective punishment aimed at making them fearful about who their neighbors might be."

Abdulrahim even quotes an Islamic Jihad terrorist whose lies are clear - but doesn't call them out:

Khaled al-Batsh, an Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza, said his group’s members lived in their own communities in the tiny enclave that is home to more than 2.3 million people. “Where should we go? Should we flee Palestine? Can we go set up a military base in Colorado?” he said. “They target[sic] the civilians so they can pit people against us.” '

Given that Israel killed Islamic Jihad leaders who lived in apartments next to civilians, obviously al-Batch is lying. And he is just a obviously lying saying that Israel chooses to murder innocent people. But the article doesn't call out these lies, and lets a terrorist speak without any opposition.  Unlike quoting Israeli sources, there is no "but" here.

That is the message that the New York Times is spreading with this article, that Israel could have avoided civilian deaths and chose to murder innocent people anyway. It is slanderous. But the article never says this directly, instead letting the quotes from Gazans stand alone as if they were factual.

This is some of the bias in the article's contents.  But that is only a small part of how this article is lying in effect.

The main way that this article gives an entirely wrong message while adhering to a narrow set of facts is by omitting a huge amount of context - context that a fair reporter would seek out.

It doesn't mention that under international law,  the existence of civilians around a military target does not make that target immune from attack. In other words, Israeli airstrikes on major Islamic Jihad leaders are perfectly legal under international law of armed conflict. Instead, Abdulrahim quotes an Amnesty report claiming (falsely) that Israel violated international law in previous conflicts in Gaza.

It doesn't mention that the ratio of civilians killed compared to militants is perhaps the lowest in any airstrikes on urban areas where the targets live among the people in history.

It doesn't mention that the ratio of civilians killed compared to militants is perhaps the lowest in any airstrikes on urban areas where the targets live among the people in history.

It doesn't mention the huge amount of time and money, not to mention the number of legal checks, that Israel uses before choosing a target.

It makes it sound like Israel could have somehow killed only Islamic Jihad targets without hurting any civilians - but does not say exactly how.

It does not interview any military experts. It does not interview any international law experts.

The entire article is meant to give an impression on readers that Israel is acting wantonly, that it is violating international law, that it either doesn't care about or deliberately chooses to target civilians, without saying those things explicitly and without giving any easy-to-find facts that would undermine that entire narrative.
  20. Neo-Nazis React To Ongoing Tensions In The Middle East, Support Palestinian Terror Groups, And Call For The Elimination Of Israel, Memri, May 25, 2023.

During the months of April and May 2023, the ongoing tensions in Israel escalated significantly, as Palestinian militants increased rocket attacks on cities in the region. On social media, neo-Nazis and white supremacists responded to the rising tensions and escalating conflict, generally celebrating the attacks and expressing support for the Palestinian cause and solidarity with terror groups including Hezbollah.

Neo-Nazis, particularly accelerationist groups, have shown continued solidarity with Jihadi groups in recent years, with some REMVE groups adopting the symbology and tactics of ISIS, Hezbollah, Hamas, and others. Some neo-Nazi groups have campaigned for a concrete alliance with Palestinian groups, with individuals such as American neo-Nazi Gregory Conte reaching out to Palestinian audiences through recorded antisemitic messages in Arabic during the tensions of 2021.
"The Mufti.. concocted a new kind of antisemitism that combined traditional Muslim antisemitism, like the anti-Jewish verses you find in the Koran, with the Nazi antisemitism that demonised Jews... His whole ideology was antisemitic and from the very beginning he targeted Jews, not Zionists."
