(*) In this state, if a candidate does not get 50% plus one of the total votes cast, a runoff is required between the two candidates with the most votes.

(**) Louisiana does not use a traditional primary organized along party lines; instead it uses a "jungle primary" whereby all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, run against each other. If a candidate manages to get 50% then that candidate is the winner; otherwise, the top two candidates (regardless of party affiliation) will comprise the candidates for the "general election".
