The altius-600 is a small Tactical american uas that can launched from the air, sea, and ground tube the altius-600 UAS is part of ALTIUS (air-launched, tube-integrated, unmanned system) family of drones developed by [1] Area I for the United States Army

development

the development of the altius-600 goes back to 2004 when the United States Navy awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract for the development and demonstration of a UAV that could be delivered from a Lockheed P-3 Orion anti-submarine and surveillance aircraft's sonobuoy launch tube[2]

testing

The drone was test-launched from the US Army's MQ-1C Gray Eagle in June 2020. The test demonstrated the drone's intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities and its ability to scout enemy locations and relay information to ground teams.[3] an ALTIUS-600 drone was successfully air-launched from the Kratos XQ-58A Valkyrie long-range stealth combat unmanned aerial vehicle's (UAV) internal weapons bay for the first time.A test conducted by Area-I, Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, and with the help from Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at the US Army Yuma Proving Ground test range, Arizona, US.[4]

Design

basic design

The ALTIUS-600 UAS has a length of 1m and wingspan of 2.54m, while its gross weight is 12.25kg (27lb). The unmanned aircraft features a sleek fuselage inverted V-tail similar the mq-1 predator[5] an altius-600 can be recoverable, the aircraft can land on any flat terrain or soft terrain, including grass, fields and sand

Payloads

the drone carries a modular payload system with a payload capacity up to 3.17kg (7lb) in its nose section. The modular design allows for easy integration of swappable instruments such as counter unmanned aircraft system CUAS jammers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, signals intelligence, and electronic warfare systems.for suicide missions, A high explosive or shaped charge warhead can also be fitted to strike targets of opportunity[6]

In addition to mission instruments, the unmanned aircraft also carries video cameras or other sensors to capture imagery and video
