Adolfo Carrion Jr. (born 1961) is a Democratic politician of Hispanic ancestry. Adolfo Carrion was also appointed to the position as "Urban Affairs Czar" in the Obama Administration, as White House Director of Urban Affairs.[1] Appointed in February 2009, Adolfo Carrion reports to President Obama. His job entails coordinating transportation and housing initiatives, as well as serving as a conduit for federal aid to economically hard-hit cities. He has an undergraduate degree in world religions from Kings College, became an associate pastor at a Bronx church, and has earned a master's degree in urban planning from Hunter College.[2] Carrion is the second-highest profile official of Puerto Rican descent nominated to office by President Obama: the first is Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. It has been suggested that Carrion has higher ambitions and will probably run for New York City mayor in the next ten years.

In 1997, Carrión won a seat in the New York City Council. He was a City Council member from 1998 to 2000. He then went on and acted as Borough President of the Bronx from 2001 to 2009, where he was criticized for his actions following a large fire that occurred on March 7, 2007.

Since 2007, he has been President of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials. In his acceptance speech, he said this:

We will eradicate poverty by investing in our most important asset: our children and families. (Speech in 2007)[3]

During Barack Hussein Obama's campaign for Presidency, Carrion helped as an active campaigner for Obama, travelling across the country to speak on his behalf. He focused particularly on states with large Hispanic populations.[2]

Shady character

During an interview with Glenn Beck, he had asked Michelle Malkin to give the American people an update on who some of the czars are, as it became a rapidly growing list of unknown people appointed by Barack Obama. Malkin said this of Adolfo Carrion.

We all know that there have been czars in past administrations, Homeland Security czar, drug czar, et cetera, but there are so many extra layers here of overlords who have usurped authority from confirmed cabinet appointments, and this includes a very shady character, Adolfo Carrion, who was the Bronx Borough President and delivered Latino votes to Obama in that neighborhood. This guy is now the urban czar who has many more powers over the already confirmed Housing and Urban Development secretary Shaun Donovan. One, it was a payoff and two, it's a way for Adolfo Carrion to carry out the same kind of 'Pay for play' deals that he specialized in when he was the Bronx Borough President. Now he can use millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants to pay off developers who are seeking favors from the Obama administration.[4]

The NY Daily News reported numerous developers made tens of thousands of dollars in campaign donations to Carrión around the same time he was considering approving their projects in the Bronx.[2]
