Alexei Filippenko

Alexei V. Filippenko is Professor of Astronomy at the Berkeley Astronomy Department of University of California. In 1998 he was a member of both teams that made discoveries interpreted later as the accelerating expansion of the Universe that is, according to belief of big bang theorists, "probably" driven by unobservable dark energy. This discovery was honored with the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics to the team leaders.[1]
