An alkene is a carbon based molecule where at least two of the carbon atoms in the molecule are joined by a double bond. The simplest alkene is ethylene (C2H4), which is commonly used in chemical engineering and also acts as a plant hormone. They are also used as Monomers to form plastics, such as poly(ethene) being formed from the alkene ethene (C2H4)
