All men are created equal are the most famous, most influential five words ever written in the English language.

Thomas Jefferson created this phrase as part of his drafting of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Its full sentence is this:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
