Alligator refers to two species of crocodilian of the family Alligatoridae, and native to southeastern North America and eastern China.
Species
- American alligator, Alligator mississippiensis; southern United States, from southern Missouri eastward to Atlantic coastline, southward to Gulf of Mexico from south-central Texas to Florida Keys.[1]
- Chinese alligator, Alligator sinensis; China: lower Yangtze River within the provinces of Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangsu.[2]
