1. How could you have prepared better for the midterm exam, and which part of American history do you think you could improve most for next time?
I should have spent more time studying. The method that I used worked very well for me, but my score would have been much higher if I had used my time more wisely the week before the midterm. I also should have spent more time focusing on the details of political parties.
- Good insight. Yes, learning about the political parties is a big help. I'll include that in a the model answers!
2. Which is your favorite question on the midterm exam that you missed, and what do you like about the question or subject matter?
I found the question with the quote from Christopher Columbus very interesting. I had not realized that gold was why he set out on his incredible mission.
- Right, it was enlightening to me also.
3. Comment on any aspect of the Scopes Trial or the issues leading up to it, and/or can you compare it to any other influential trial in American history?
I find the entire trial interesting. It seems like one of those mysteries in history that we will never solve. We will never know the motive behind why Darrow submitted to Bryan.
- I think we can infer that Darrow did not feel he could handle Bryan's questions.
4. Do you think the United States should have entered World War I, and why?
The United States made the right choice when they entered World War I. If the USA had not joined the fighting in Europe, the fighting would have eventually spread onto American soil. This would have caused even more American bloodshed. Although I do think that the USA needed to join into the war, the government should not have drafted so many young men. Perhaps it would have been better if the government had just drafted men from age 20 to 23 instead of men from 18 to 25. That way America would not have been lacking so many influential, hard working, young men.
- Excellent point.
5. Your view of Teddy Roosevelt, please.
I find Teddy Roosevelt very inspiring. Although he was the youngest President ever in office, he was still very influential in changing America for the better. I am very grateful that he established the national park system. So much of America’s indescribable beauty has been preserved through Teddy Roosevelt. On top of having many great accomplishments, he just seemed like a really nice guy.
- Good analysis.
6. Pick one of the Constitutional Amendments 16 through 19, and express your understanding and view of it.
I am personally very grateful for the 19th Amendment. A woman having the right to vote is one of the best changes that has been made in American history. There have been many incredibly influential women who never would have had the chance to stand if this Amendment had never been established. Two women who immediately come to my mind are Condoleezza Rice and Sarah Palin.
- Right.
7. Explain the cartoon.
This political cartoon is representing how Teddy Roosevelt helped settle a war between Russia and Japan. He is depicted as an angel dragging the two counties into a peace treaty by pulling their ears. This cartoon really shows Teddy Roosevelt’s character. He was an influential peacemaker with a down-to-earth approach to everything.
- Superb.
- Terrific! Perfect answers: 70/70. Congratulations!--Aschlafly 23:20, 23 November 2008 (EST)
