Amish farming is unique in rejecting subsidies by the government. Farming in Europe is heavily subsidized by government, and much farming in the United States is also subsidized to an extent less than Europe.

Amish farms use less fertilizer than most commercial farms. Amish farms typically space plants in their crops further apart from each other, and rotate their crops more frequently rather than relying on fertilizer to protect against disease and to promote growth.
