Andrew Murr
Andrew Stevenson Murr is an American politician, currently serving in the Texas Legislature as a Republican member of the Texas House, representing District 53, which serves a wide area of the Texas Hill Country, centered on the city of Junction.
Murr is the grandson (through his mother) of former Texas Governor Coke Stevenson. He is known for his old-west style mustache, commonly known in some quarters as "The Murrstache".
After serving as county judge for Kimble County, in 2014 Murr ran for the Texas House and won, and has won re-election every two years since.
In 2023, as part of the 88th Legislature, Murr was named chairman of the House Committee on General Investigating, which handles complaints against House members and also serves as the starting point for impeachment and removal of statewide officeholders. Murr would lead the committee in two high-profile investigations that session:
- First, the committee would recommend that Representative Bryan Slaton be expelled as a member, after he provided alcohol to an underage intern and then had sexual relations with her. The House voted unanimously (147-0 with two absent members) to expel Slaton.
- Second, the committee would recommend Articles of Impeachment against Attorney General Ken Paxton, after an investigation showed that Paxton had misused his office to benefit a political donor, then retaliated against former staffers who became whistleblowers and reported his actions to law enforcement. The House voted 121-23 (with two members notably Present Not Voting) to impeach Paxton.
