Ante Pavelić was the dictator of the Independent State of Croatia during World War II. Pavelic's forces known as the Ustaste were responsible for the massacres of over 200,000 ethnic Serbs. By the end of WW2, Pavelic escaped to Argentina and lived in exile until there was an assassination attempt on him by a Yugoslav assassin, named Milan Stojadinović. From there Pavelic went to Spain for treatment. However, he quickly succumbed to his wounds and died shortly after.
Pavelic and the Croatian Ustate were known for using the Catholic Faith as their excuse for their Chauvinist identity.
