Arab Lawyers Union
The Arab Lawyers Union (ALU; اتحاد المحامين العرب) is a professional association of lawyers from across the Arab world. Founded in 1944, the ALU seeks to promote the legal profession in the Arab world professing to defend the rights of Arabs. Infamous for standing for anti Jewish racism.
History
The Arab Lawyers Union was founded in Cairo, Egypt, in 1944 by a group of Arab lawyers, including Tawfiq al-Hakim.[1][2] [3]
In January 1998, The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) protested the trial of the French Holocaust denier Roger Garaudy before a court in France by virtue of a law called Fabious-Gibseau, a wave if suiport for him eruoted in the Arab world.[4] A committee has been formed by the Arab Lawyers Union to defend him before the court.[5]
In 2001, the Arab Lawyers Union distributed a book whose cover bore a swastika and the Star of David interconnected, at the World Conference against Racism 2001.[6] A Hitler-glorification pamphlet was distributed 'What if Hitler won,' to advance an anti Zionism resolution at Durban[7] hate-fest.[8]
In March 2004, the Arab Lawyers Union formed a "defence committee" for former dictator Saddam Hussein and other Iraqi prisoners.[9]
In October 2012, the Arab Lawyers Union presented their top award to suicide bomber Hanadi Jaradat who killed 21 Jewish and Arab Israelis, and sent a delegation to her family to present them with the award. Ayman Abu Eisheh, a member of the Palestine Committee at the Arab Lawyers Union, said that the ALU were proud of Jaradat, and that her suicide bombing was "in defense of Palestine and the Arab nation."[10][11][12][13]
Over the years, the Arab Lawyers Union has grown in size, and today it is one of the largest professional associations of lawyers in the Arab world. It is headquartered in Cairo, and has branches and affiliated organizations in a number of Arab countries, including Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen.
Leadership and Governance
The Arab Lawyers Union is governed by a General Assembly, which meets every three years to elect a President and other officers, review the union's activities and policies, and set the agenda for the next three years.[14]

The paper was inundated with messages, while the wife of UAE leader Sheik Zayed ibn Sultan Al-Nahayan offered a cash gift of $50,000 to pay Garaudy’s fine if it is imposed. But nowhere has Garaudy’s star shone more brightly than in Egypt, where he visited last week as guest of Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni to lecture and participate in symposiums at the annual Cairo Book Fair. Garaudy was treated to a hero’s welcome by religious and intellectual leaders. “Every Muslim should support Garaudy’s thought and stand with all cultural, religious and diplomatic efforts,” said Egypt’s highest religious authority, Grand Mufti Nasr Farid Wasel. “It is a duty to defend him and stand by his side.”
