Argyllshire

Argyllshire, or simply Argyll and archaically Argyle, is a county on the western coast of Scotland, covering the south-west Scottish Highlands and much of the Inner Hebrides. Its area is similar to the parts of the ancient kingdom of Dál Riata (498–850 AD) that are within present day Scotland, or the combined area of the early Scottish provinces including Kintyre, Knapdale, Lorn, Cowal and Argyll (smaller than the county so-named). The county's scenery is among the most dramatic in Britain, consisting of sea lochs, mountains, islands and peninsulas, most notably Kintyre.
