Ashton-under-Lyne

Ashton-under-Lyne is a town in Lancashire, England, approximately six miles east of Manchester city centre. The River Tame flows through the town.

The M60 Manchester orbital motorway runs to the west of the town centre. The town's railway station is on the Manchester to Huddersfield line.

Historically the cotton industry and coal mining were important to the town’s economy.

Ashton United Football Club and Curzon Ashton Football Club play in different English regional football leagues.

Its population is 43,300 (2001).
