The Azores are a Portuguese Autonomous Region and archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean, about 950 miles west of mainland Portugal and 2,400 miles east of Massachusetts. The capital, Ponta Delgada, is located on São Miguel Island.[1]
Flemish Islands
The Azores are sometimes referred to as the Flemish Islands because of the large number of Flemish settlers arriving there in the fifteenth century.[2]
