Baltic Way was a peaceful protest on 23 August 1989 that created a chain of humans over 400 miles long across three nations - Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The demonstration originated in Black Ribbon Day on the 50th anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

The day has since become the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism.[1]
