Bangor is a cathedral city in Caernarfonshire, Wales. Laying claim to the title of "oldest city in Wales", it has its roots in a 6th century monastic institution founded on the present site of Bangor Cathedral. It sits close to the Menai Strait, facing Anglesey to the north-west with the mountains of Snowdonia lying to the south. It lies 9 miles to the north-east of the county town Caernarfon.
