A bathroom bill is legislation, typically at the state level, that protects the privacy of girls and women in bathrooms against intrusion by boys or men who think or pretend to be transgendered.

North Carolina passed such a bill in 2016 (HB2), but its governor was subsequently and narrowly defeated in the following election, and the bill was partially rescinded the next legislative session.

Texas plans to take up this issue as part of its special session as called by its Governor Greg Abbott to begin on July 18, 2017.

Fourteen hi-tech companies, including Facebook and Apple, signed a letter opposing the Texas bathroom bill in 2017.
